The shop where the hairdresser scene, mostly cut, was shot. It had closed down by the time the pics were taken. Whithorn.
From Declan McCafferty:
"Here's a couple of pictures of the inside of a now-gone hairdresser in Whithorn. A reader of my old website understood that the hairdresser shots in TWM were filmed here. The shop had ceased trading by the time these shots were taken through the window. There's not much here to identify it other than a familiar looking slanted bit of ceiling that probably has part of a staircase above it. By the time I got to see this shop myself, its innards had been gutted and renovated. It's next door to the RBS bank, if memory serves.
However, I have another theory about the TWM hairdressers. When scanning that Estate brochure recently I noticed that our favourite Whithorn house at 59 George Street used to have shop premises in the ground floor. Traces of this can be seen in pictures of its frontage where the right hand side has slightly different stonework in keeping with a shop-front being renovated into a dwelling. A bit of googling later, i found the name of that shop was Dolly's Hairdresser according to those bizarre business directories that seem to have carried forward entries from before the internet was invented. It's strange for the filmmakers to have sought another hairdressing venue when they already had permission to film in 59 George Street. But, perhaps the shop was leased out by the home-owner Mrs Kirk and her tenant wasn't interested. Who knows?!"
